KILGORE — No suspects had been identified by late Monday in a New Year's Eve homicide, and Kilgore police took to social media to quell concerns from neighbors.
Some were voicing worries after learning the body of Tracy Lynn Reedy, 50, was found about 11:30 p.m. Sunday on a sidewalk at The Village on Meadowgreen Drive apartments in southeast Kilgore.
Reedy was dead from multiple gunshot wounds, and police said an unidentified suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
Monica Tinney lives a block from the site where Reedy was found but said she didn't hear anything about the incident until seeing a news alert after sunrise Monday.
After living more than two years in what she described as a quiet neighborhood, she called the shooting death shocking "and kind of scary."
In response to safety concerns from residents, Kilgore police said on the department Facebook page late Monday that it still was working on the case and that residents were "not in danger."
The statement added that "other than one shooting near the college several months ago, we've had a very safe year in Kilgore. Incidents do happen near Kilgore and get attributed to us, but we are a safe city. The last murder was in 2014."
In a statement issued about 2:30 a.m. Monday, Assistant Chief Roman Roberson said the department's criminal investigation unit was working the case and more information would be made public as it became available.
No further information had been released by late Monday.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective John Rowe at (903) 218-6906.
