Students honored

Students at area high schools recently were honored during a Judson Lions Club meeting for their 2017 volunteer work.

The students totaled more than 800 hours in 2017 by volunteering at their schools and churches, helping with special needs students, helping with pet adoptions, providing music to the elderly, working with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Pines and more.

The Judson Lions Club honored students who had either 50 or 100 hours with the Lions Club Young Leaders Service Award.

This is the second year the Judson Lions Club has participated in the project to recognize high school students with this award.

"I have known these kids for years and have seen them grow up to become young adults who are thinking of others," said Becky Whitenack, president of the Judson Lions Club. "They are willing to give their time and talent to others in our community. It was an honor to recognize students in our community who are out doing good for others without asking for anything in return."

Students who were honored are Kasey Whitenack of Longview High School; Jessica Francis of Spring Hill High School; Renee Petree of Spring Hill High School; Rachel McCarty of Longview High School; Erin Jackson of Longview High School; Zoey Shephard of Longview High School; Ian McCarty of Longview High School; Rachel Petree of Spring Hill High School; Penny Hattenbach of Longview High School; and Lexi Smith of Jefferson High School.
