Kilgore ISD trustees choose superintendent search firm

Kilgore ISD interim Superintendent Mike Morrison, seen at his post as Gladewater ISD superintendent in 2006, said the board of trustees interviewed several search firms Monday night and chose to employ the Texas Association of School Board’s Executive Search Services. The firm will seek a permanent replacement for superintendent.

KILGORE — Trustees for Kilgore ISD plan to interview several search firms Monday in pursuit of a permanent superintendent.

The board convened in closed session Wednesday to review search firm applications but took no action in open session. Interim Superintendent Mike Morrison said trustees will interview the firms during a special-called meeting tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday.

Morrison was named to his post July 27 after former Superintendent Cara Cooke resigned for a job at Aransas Pass ISD. Before the board hired Cooke in 2013, trustees declined to use a search firm and hunted for a permanent superintendent themselves.

A three-member committee recommended appointing Morrison to the interim post in July. Trustee Trey Hattaway said Morrison would lead the district “until a full-time replacement is named.”

Until then, Morrison will be paid $532.46 per day, he said in August.

Morrison retired as Gladewater ISD superintendent in December 2008 and returned briefly as interim superintendent in 2017. He also has been an administrator in Garrison and Jefferson ISDs.
