Carthage ISD trustees are set to meet Monday evening to officially hire John Wink as the district’s next superintendent.

The special meeting is set 6 p.m. at the Carthage ISD Administration Building, No. 1 Bulldog Drive.

Wink, a Longview High School graduate who was superintendent at Blue Ridge ISD near Dallas, will succeed longtime Superintendent Glenn Hambrick. Hambrick is retiring at the end of the month.

School board trustees named Wink as their top choice in December after two rounds of interviews conducted around the Thanksgiving holidays.

He previously worked at Tatum, Hallsville, Gilmer and Longview ISDs.

Ben Donald, school board president, said in December that trustees were impressed and excited by Wink.

“We interviewed several awesome candidates, and I think our board is extremely excited to welcome Mr. Wink into our district,” Donald said. “I think we’re all excited to see what he brings to the children of this district.”
