Gregg County’s burn ban will be in effect for the foreseeable future.
Gregg County commissioners ratified the Sept. 4 burn ban during their regular meeting Monday.
Local fire departments battled at least three fires over the past weekend, Sheriff Maxey Cerliano said.
Soils in Gregg County measured an average of 708 on the Keetch-Byram Drought Index Monday afternoon. Scores between 600 and 800 are often associated with more severe drought with increased wildfire occurrence.
