Cranes and moving trucks surrounded Magrill Plaza on Thursday.
Work crews spent the day removing a portable restroom and lounge structure that serves Longview Transit bus service employees and customers.
The structure, along with the bus transfer center, is moving from Magrill Plaza — a tiny city park bordered by North Green Street, Padon Street, North First Street and Grove Street in downtown Longview — to a new transfer center next to Longview Transit’s administrative offices on Pacific Avenue.
The Texas Department of Transportation awarded the city of Longview $1.4 million in 2016 to build the center, which Longview Transit General Manager Scott Lewis said Thursday is “probably 80 to 90 percent complete.”
The restrooms had been inoperable for about three months in preparation for the move, Lewis said. He expects the new center to open — and for transfer services at Magrill Plaza to close — later this summer.
Magrill Plaza has served as Longview Transit’s transfer center since the agency started operating public bus services in 2003.
