Longview police arrested a 43-year-old woman Wednesday morning after she threatened to cut her mother’s face with scissors and then used the scissors to cut phone lines in a hotel room, according to a report.

Britney Michelle Ortega of Longview was being held Thursday in Gregg County Jail on a $20,000 bond on a charge of aggravated assault on a date/family/household member with a weapon, jail records show. She also awaited bond on a warrant from Longview police stemming from a Jan. 7 arrest on a charge of first offense for solicitation in a solicitation-free zone.

Police arrested Ortega after responding at 10:56 a.m. Wednesday to a disturbance at a hotel in the 3100 block of Estes Parkway, the report said. Callers told police dispatch they heard things breaking in a room and a child screaming.

Upon entering the hotel room, police found Ortega’s mother sitting on a bed with Ortega’s 7-year-old daughter, who was “crying hysterically” as she pointed at her mother and yelled Ortega had scissors, the report said.

Ortega disputed her mother’s account of being threatened with scissors, but the girl jumped to her knees on the bed and pointed at a pair of scissors on the floor near the end of the bed, the report said.

After police helped to dress Ortega and put her in a patrol vehicle, they spoke to family members, who said Ortega had cut the phone lines to prevent them from calling police, according to the report.

Ortega had been released from jail Tuesday on a $2,000 bond on a charge of failure to identify as a fugitive or give false information and on a warrant from Longview police for nonpayment of court fines for the first offense for soliciting in a solicitation-free zone, according to jail records.
