An Overton man died Sunday, a day after his vehicle ran a stop sign and was struck by another driver, according to Erik Gonzales of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Catarino Mata, 76, was headed west on Gregg County Road 2729 at 6:26 p.m. Saturday, ran a stop sign at FM 3053 and was struck by a vehicle driven north on FM 3053 by Robert Martin, 50, of Overton, Gonzales said.
Gonzales said Mata was taken to UT Tyler Health and was pronounced dead Sunday by Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Mitch Shamburger of Smith County.
He said Martin and three passengers in his vehicle, 13- and 14-year-old girls and a 9-year-old boy, were taken to Christus Good Shepherd Emergency Room in Kilgore where they were treated and released.
