The body of a 77-year-old woman was found after crews responded to a fire early Monday at a mobile home east of Kilgore, authorities said Tuesday.
Rusk County sheriff’s Deputy David Roberts identified Charlane Reeves as the resident of the mobile home on County Road 292 that was destroyed by the fire.
“It looks like the house caught on fire, and she was unable to vacate the house,” Roberts said. He added the sheriff’s office is waiting for an autopsy to determine cause of death.
The Elderville-Lakeport Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm at 1:34 a.m. and found the body but was not able to identify Reeves and turned the investigation over to the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, Fire Chief Pat Owens said.
“The building was 100 percent involved, and the roof had collapsed,” Owens said.
Owens said Elderville-Lakeport sent three fire engines with seven crew members, and the Crims Chapel Volunteer Fire Department assisted.
