Tyler police have confirmed Tyler Legacy High School Principal Daniel C. Crawford is being investigated on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance.

Tyler ISD officials on Friday said Crawford has resigned.

In a statement, the district said the search for a replacement will begin immediately.

The investigation started after police said they assisted emergency medical services at call at 1:02 a.m. Thursday to Crawford’s home in Tyler.

The incident report obtained by the Tyler Morning Telegraph said Crawford was in possession of or concealed less than 1 gram of a “white powdery substance.”

Tyler ISD declined to comment further.

No arrests have been made, and police said Friday that they have no further comment.

Crawford was hired as principal at Tyler Legacy High in fall 2016, coming from Kaufman ISD.
