Rebekah “Becky” Richards
LONGVIEW — Rebekah Reneé Richards made her joyous journey home on Sunday, February 4, 2018 and walked lovingly into the arms of the Lord she loved so much.
Rebekah, “Becky”, was born on June 14, 1973 to David and Rhonda Richards. Defying the odds from the day she was born, Becky met every milestone and accomplished every goal set before her. Becky was an exceptional athlete and competed in Special Olympics for 36 years, earning numerous awards and medals. She was most proud of the many gold medals she won competing in swimming and cycling.
Becky was blessed to be raised in a town filled with family and friends that loved her dearly. She had a special friend named Lisa; her tabby cat that she loved for 22 years. Becky especially loved her grandparents Tom and Martha Armstrong. She spent long hours learning to swim and play Uno with both of them. Becky got her love for the Dallas Cowboys from her grandfather W.E. Richards, and looked forward to watching the Texas Rangers with her Dad David Richards. Becky gained a passion for Jesus who she knew as her personal savior. Her mother Rhonda spent many nights reading Bible stories to her that developed into a flame that Becky shared with everyone she met. Becky was not ashamed to share Jesus with all people and to tell them she looked forward to seeing Him face to face.
Becky was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, W.E. and Gladys Richards of Gladewater, Tom and Martha Armstrong of Longview, and her Aunt Pat Karrh of San Antonio.
Those left to cherish her memory are her parents, David and Rhonda Richards of Longview; her brother Paul and Rachel of Longview; one nephew, Justin Richards; and two nieces Abigail and Bailey Richards, all of Longview. Becky is also survived by numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 10 AM Friday, February 9, 2018, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, with Reverend Greg Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Rosewood Park. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
The family request that memorial donation be made in lieu of flowers to Mobberly Baptist Church Children’s Ministry.
