Kathleen Harden
Kathleen Harden
LONGVIEW — Kathleen Harden, 90, of Longview, went to be with the Lord on June 8, 2019, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Grapevine, Texas. She was born on August 7, 1928 in Gilmer, Texas to Jay and Eunice Willis. Kathleen grew up in Upshur County and went to school at East Mountain High School where she graduated as the Salutatorian.
After high school she worked at various jobs in Gilmer. There, through a mutual friend, she met Don Harden, married, and moved to Kilgore, Texas. Kathleen had a wonderful mind for sales and finance and used it to develop her skills to perform as both book keeper and sales person for United Gas. She and Don moved to Longview in 1961 and she got a job doing the books for Riff’s department store. While there, she started selling cosmetics and did so for Selber Bros. and then Dillard’s before retiring in the 1980s.
Kathleen and Don loved to travel and experience adventure together. They spent their retirement traveling to Alaska, Hawaii (where Don was stationed during WW2), Mexico, Costa Rica and within the U.S. from coast to coast. Kathleen was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Mobberly Baptist Church. If you knew her at all, you know how dearly she loved her family, the Lord, her church family, and that she was a fierce friend. Her infectious smile and laugh will be missed by everyone she encountered.
Kathleen’s loving husband Don went to be with the Lord in January 2016. She is survived by her son Jim R. Harden and his wife Donna; son Don W. Harden and his wife Amy; grandchildren Jim R. Harden Jr., John W. Harden, Shelby A. Harden, Ashley G. Harden and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 9 am on Friday, June 14, 2019 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Rev. Scott Schulik will officiate. Interment will follow at Kilgore City Cemetery. Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Rader Funeral Home.
