Letter: Athens ISD responsible in bus-train crash

School district is responsible

Regarding the Athens school bus driver, the entire situation is heartbreaking (news story, Tuesday).

The school district has a huge responsibility in this matter. I have not seen one thing regarding their involvement. A 78-year-old person is entirely too old to be driving a school bus full of rambunctious children. What precautions and testing does the employer have to determine the competency of drivers?

In my opinion, the ISD has an obligation to take every precaution necessary to employ people who are competent and capable of keeping children safe.
